Not patients, young authors.
We are a student-run organization on a mission to empower children with chronic illnesses to dream big by providing a free, online, one-on-one mentorship program to create their own storybooks.
Our story
began in 2018:
StoryWish was founded in 2018 to give children with physical critical or chronic illnesses the space to creatively express themselves. We have now expanded to inspiring all children with this unique opportunity to read and write their own stories.
Our flagship StoryWish Inspiring Young Authors (SWIYA) Program is a free storybook writing experience for eligible children aged 10-17. We are an entirely student-run organization on multiple college campuses.

Young Authors & Families
We were all so excited to get the books today. He loved seeing his book and all of us reading it, and he is super proud of it.
2018 StoryWish Parent
We believe in children as young authors! With a little help and a touch of StoryWish magic from our mentors, our young authors are empowered to write their own stories in our SWIYA program.
Author Advisors
Support young authors & students pursuing
writing careers by leading speaker events.
Authors, poets, illustrators, and other creative professionals alike are invited to join the official StoryWish Author Cohort of their local University chapter.
They host virtual and in-person speaker events and panels on the writing craft, tips and tricks for pursuing a writing career, and more to mentor interested students.
Our Partners
We partner with hospitals, private practices, and community health centers to bring StoryWish to more chronically ill children, and we partner with local schools and community centers to expand StoryWish's mission to even more kids. Other organizations we have worked with to put together author talk events include the National Park Service and Chesterwood.
